Have You Gone Nuts?

It is okay to go nuts sometimes, that is, if you are choosing a handful of almonds (1 ounce, 1/4 cup or about 20-25 almonds) a day. Almonds have often been called a “superfood” due to their many nutrients. Not only do they provide protein and fiber, but they are also an excellent source of Vitamin E (a powerful antioxidant), manganese and phosphorus.

Almonds are easy to take with you and can be a very tasty and healthy snack. Although most of their fat is monounsaturated (which may help lower your LDL), be mindful of your portion. Also, it is best to buy them raw, roasted or lightly salted.

Adding more nuts and seeds to our diet can be nutritious and delicious. Enjoy this short video “How to Snack on Nuts and Seeds” from Med Instead of Meds for extra tips and great recipes.
