Interested in learning more about pollinators and how to identify them? Join Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteers at the Mount Airy City Pollinator Garden (located across from the Mount Airy Public Library) as we celebrate the 2024 Great Southeast Pollinator Census, counting pollinators throughout Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Florida on August 23 and August 24. Participants will have the opportunity to conduct their own pollinator count at the garden. This data will be shared with others who participate across the Great Southeast United States. These counts will be uploaded via laptop before leaving the counting site. An Extension Master Gardener will be present to help in this process. The GSEPC will be conducted during normal Farmer’s Market hours on Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

On Saturday, August 24, 2024, the Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteers are partnering with the Mount Airy Public Library, the Modern Gardeners Garden Club, and the City of Mount Airy to host a Pollinator Party from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Participants may conduct the census count and return to the library to upload their results. Participants will be invited to enjoy a story walk about Senorita Mariposa, a monarch butterfly making the journey from Canada to Mexico each year in its annual migration, create craft projects centered around pollinators, participate in a honey tasting exercise, and enjoy some delicious refreshments. It should be a morning filled with learning and fun while also helping gather information to protect our declining pollinators. Please call the Mount Airy Public Library at 336-789-5108 to register for this program.
