Taking Applications for Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Scholarship

NC State Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteers in Surry County will be awarding a $750 scholarship to one local student pursuing a four-year degree in a horticulture related field. This may include but is not limited to, horticulture, floriculture, landscape design, botany, forestry, agronomy, plant pathology, conservation, environmental science, soil science, turfgrass, agribusiness, viticulture, etc. Qualifications for this scholarship are:
  1. The applicant must be a graduate of a high school in Surry County, including home schooled students, and resides in Surry County.
  2. The applicant's stated career goal upon entering the junior year of professional preparation is that of horticulture or a related agricultural field of study (for example horticulture, floriculture, landscape design, botany, forestry, agronomy, plant pathology, conservation, environmental science, soil science, turfgrass, ag business, viticulture, etc.)
  3. The scholarship award may be renewable for previous recipients entering their senior academic year upon recommendation of the scholarship committee.
  4. Applicants must submit the appropriate forms to the EMGV Program Scholarship Committee by May 1.
  5. The scholarship award will be paid directly into the student's account at the college or university in which the student is enrolled.
  6. The Scholarship Committee reserves the right, in its recommendations to EMGV, to deviate from stated requirements.
  7. Preference will be given to those pursuing a four-year degree.
The application deadline is June 1.
