When you hear the word EXERCISE or think about staying physically active, what comes to your mind? Is it work, drudgery, boring and/or a painful and monotonous experience? If this is the case, most likely you are not looking forward to it, are not doing it, and definitely NOT enjoying it.

Exercise, however, does not have to be any of those things! It can be very enjoyable. In order for it to be a pleasant experience, one that you look forward to, try including some of these suggestions:

  • Choose a variety of activities that you enjoy doing (walking, gardening, dancing, swimming, hiking, sports) then change it up.
Rock Garden

Create a beautiful rock garden in your own yard.

  • Choose a good friend or relative you want to spend more time with and invite them to join you. Then enjoy their company and conversation.
  • Listen to your favorite music while walking and hiking or to the sounds around you (streams and birds).

Enjoy the soothing sound of running water.

  • Look for peaceful and beautiful locations (walking paths near streams or rivers, gardens, parks, etc.) then vary the location so it does not get boring.

Visit a local park.

  • Take time to meditate on the beauty you see around you (sunset, flowers, butterflies, birds…NATURE, or the happy smile your child (loved one) has on their face because you are spending time with them).

Enjoy the beauty in your own backyard.

I assure you that if you put into practice these suggestions, physical activity will become a joyful and regular part of your life.
