The North Carolina Extension & Community Association held their annual conference from October 26th-28th at the Embassy Suites/Conference Center in Concord. Along with various workshops and learning opportunities, this conference also holds the State ECA Cultural Arts Competition. In order to participate in this competition, participants must place 1st in their categories at the County and District levels.

This year, Surry County members had 5 pieces entered into the State competition. We are pleased to announce that ALL 5 placed at the State level! Carolyn J. Martin (Pilot Mountain Achievers) placed 1st in the “Creative Writing: Music” category with her original hymn with music and lyrics. Lisa Royal (Pilot Mountain Achievers) placed 2nd in the “Felting” category with her felted flower. Dana Workman (Pilot Mountain Achievers) placed 2nd in the “Home Furnishings” category with her tuffet, and 2nd in the “Dolls: Fabric” category with her pillowcase doll. Anna Davis (White Sulphur Springs) placed 3rd in the “Hand or Loom Weaving” category.

Congratulations to all of these ladies! We’re very proud of you!
